Morning Orientation

Grace Before the Flood

Steady One, before the flood of messages and meetings,

I ask for the day in advance: not that it be easy, but that I be present for it. Give me a long view for short fuses, humour for the absurd moments, and one clear eye for what actually matters among the hundred things that will claim to. Let me be interruptible by people and uninterruptible by trivia. And when tonight comes, let me be able to say: I was there for my own day, awake for my own life.

Ahead of the flood: steadiness. Amid the flood: presence. After the flood: gratitude. Amen.

For reflection — no answer needed

To sit with — nothing to write down
What is one word you want to carry through this day?
To sit with — nothing to write down
What are you already bracing for — and can it be met rather than braced against?
To sit with — nothing to write down
What are you grateful for before anything has happened yet?
