Purpose and Calling

Vocation is less often a lightning strike than a slow conversation between our gifts and the world's needs. These prayers and practices support that listening — in work, service, creativity and ordinary faithfulness — without the pressure to have everything figured out.

Purpose and Calling

Faithful in Small Things

Creator, who counts faithfulness heavier than fame,

deliver me from the exhausting audition for a bigger life. Most of what matters happens at the scale I already inhabit: the work done carefully when no one checks, the kindness that will never be posted, the promise kept at inconvenience. If a larger calling comes, let it find me already faithful here. And if this — this ordinary, unphotographed faithfulness — is the whole shape of my purpose, then let me live it so well that it shines like the thing it is.

Here is my field. Here is my flock. Here I will be found faithful. Amen.

For reflection — no answer needed

To sit with — nothing to write down
What work makes you lose track of time, and what might that be telling you?
To sit with — nothing to write down
Whose need keeps crossing your path — as if it were assigned to you?
To sit with — nothing to write down
If your gifts wrote a job description for you, what would it say?
