For the Long Work

Steadfast One, whose justice rolls on like a river,

the work of repair is slow and the news is fast, and I am tempted to either burn out or tune out. Teach me the long obedience: showing up after the march, staying after the meeting, giving after the emergency fades from the headlines. Surround me with companions for the distance — this work was never meant for solo heroes. And when I am weary, remind me that rest is part of the work, not a betrayal of it. Rivers do not hurry, and they carve stone.
